Yoga Sutra 1.2

Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.

YOGAŚ CHITTA-VRITA NIRODHAH Sutra1.2

In our first sutra we learnt yoga begins now, and Patanjali very cleverly and straight away then instructs us what yoga is and according to this text it is the NIRODHAH ~ restraint or control of the VRITA~ busy mind.

The term of Chita~Vrita introduces the theme of Prkrati~ this word means that which is ever changing, like nature.

So sutra 1.2 informs us that yoga is to connect or to see the soul of who we are behind the nature of the ever changing mind. Just like nature always knows what to do, so does your soul behind the "you" when the mind surrenders.

To do this Patanjali suggests stillness and or surrender as mastery of yoga.

How does this teaching here in sutra 1.2 effect or adjust your current view in the term "yoga"? How can you learn to identify with this teaching of yoga and incorporate it in to your current yogic practice?
